Malena Lair Ferrari Head Coach

Malena Lair Ferrari grew up at the Bannockburn Pool. She fell in love with the sport of swimming at the age of 6 while swimming for the Bannockburn Dolphins. Malena was a member of the swim team until she graduated in 2010. Setting several individual records and MCSL records which have all been broken since then with the last one falling last season. Her passion for the sport started at Bannockburn and flourished from there allowing her to be competitive in college and internationally representing the Argentine National team. Malena started coaching at Bannockburn as one of the first CITs at the age of 15, then went on to being assistant coach, co-head coach, and finally leading the team as the head coach for 10 years. In addition, to coaching at Bannockburn, Malena coaches the Capitol Sea Devils and oversees the Select group. She has been coaching there for the past 7 years helping swimmers develop their skills, passion, and understanding about the sport. Many of her swimmers have qualified for meets such as the Junior Olympics and Zones. Furthermore, Malena is the current head coach of the Holton-Arms Swim and Dive team. Outside of swimming, Malena is a full-time teacher at the German International School, where she teaches physical education, is the athletic director and head of the PE department. She also teaches English as a second language at her school. Some of her hobbies are watching house renovation shows with her husband, playing volleyball, and traveling. She is very excited to be back at Bannockburn and is looking forward to a fun and competitive season with lots of new summer memories to be made for all members of the team.

Andrew O'Brian Assistant Head Coach

Hi there my name is Andrew OBrien! I am currently a student studying Real Estate and Finance and Virginia Tech. My passion for swimming started at Bannockburn and the age of 5, and I have loved this pool ever since. I have countless memories and experiences from this pool that has shaped the person I am today. Bannockburn has done so much for me and I cannot wait to pass on what I have learned in the sport to those who share the same passion as mine. Go dolphins!

Tess Buckley - Associate Coach

This is Tess’ third year coaching for Bannockburn. She has been swimming since she was 5 and has been an active member of the Bannockburn community as both a lifeguard and lessons coach. She is a student at School Without Walls High School in downtown DC where she is her swim team captain. Her favorite strokes are butterfly and breaststroke.

Will Spooner - CIT

This will be my second year coaching at Bannockburn and my fourth year giving lessons. Along with giving lessons I am also lifeguard certified and have experience working with kids. I swam competitively for 9 years and have been a Bannockburn Dolphin since I was 7. Some of my favorite memories at Bannockburn include the beaver games after Friday morning practice and all the different cheers that we have at A meets. Charlie Conroy - CIT

This will be my second year giving private lessons and my first-year coaching for the Bannockburn Dolphins. I have been swimming with Bannockburn since I was six years old and have been swimming through the year with Capital Sea Devils and ASA. I also swim and row for Whitman High School and I am about to get my Eagle Scout.
