Time Trials

2023 Time Trials - June 10, 2023

Time Trials are held the Saturday before the first A Meet. This is a team only event in which all swimmers are timed in as many events as they wish to swim. Time Trials provide the coaches and swimmers with the best times for seeding purposes for the A Meets to come. It also provides the swimmers with personal goal setting for future events.

Types of Meets

We participate in three basic types of meets:

1. Wednesday evening "B" dual meets that are open to all swimmers, regardless of their times.

2. Saturday morning "A" dual meets that are limited to qualified swimmers.

3. Additional meets for the top swimmers in our Division and MCSL.

Although some swim on Saturdays, some on Wednesdays, and some on both days, we are one team focused on everyone having fun!

Wednesday "B" Meets

Each Wednesday evening for 4 weeks, all swimmers may swim 3 stroke events (e.g., freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly) + an individual medley (IM) in a dual meet we have with another MCSL team in an effort to improve times and qualify to swim in the A meets held on Saturday mornings.

Saturday "A" Meets:

Each Saturday morning for 5 weeks, our team competes against another MCSL Division A team. Each week, the swimmers with the 3 fastest times in each non-freestyle event (and the fastest 6 swimmers in freestyle events) qualify to swim in that week's Saturday meet. Each swimmer can only swim a maximum of 3 individual events + an IM + 1 relay at a Saturday meet.

Each week, the head coach will distribute a list of swimmers who qualify for that week's Saturday meet. If you are unable to swim, please contact the head coach as soon as possible in order to give others a chance to swim in the meet. A parent of a swimmer who qualifies for a Saturday meet is expected to volunteer at that meet.

Additional Meets:

Divisional Championship - July 22, 2023

The Divisional Championship meet is held the Saturday after the last dual meet. All six teams in the division will compete. There are two heats of each individual event and one heat of each relay event for a total of 96 heats. Each team can enter no more than two swimmers per event.

Will my child swim at the Divisional meet?

The Divisional meet is the championship meet for the division. The divisional meet lineup is determined at the coaches’ discretion, with a strong consideration of the fastest two swimmers of each event in each age group.

Division Relay Carnival

Relay Carnival is an MCSL meet comprised entirely of relay races involving all of the division teams. There are numerous different formats (freestyle, medley, mixed age, mixed gender, etc.). Bannockburn enters one team for each of the 22 events. The Relay Carnival creates a cheering frenzy unlike any other and should not be missed! The roster is determined at the coaches’ discretion, with a strong consideration of the fastest swimmers of each event in each age group.

Coaches’ Invitational Long Course Meet

This is an individual meet held after the 3rd dual meet of the MCSL season occurs. The fastest 8 swimmers (plus two alternates) in all of MCSL from each age group for each individual event are invited to swim. The meet is swum in a long course pool (50 meters) at the Rockville Municipal Swim Center and the distance for all events is doubled. Swimmers are allowed to swim in a maximum of two individual events.

MCSL All-Star Relay Meet

The All-Star Relays are based on the results of the Relay Carnival for all events except the 175M Freestyle Relay. The first-place relay carnival winners in each event except for the 175 M Freestyle events go to the All-Star Relay Meet. For the 175M Freestyle Relays, the fastest relay time results from the Relay Carnival and the A meets will determine which team will go to the All-Star Relays.

All-Star Individual Meet
The All-Star Individual Meet is the championship meet for the entire MCSL and is based on the swimmer’s best time at the dual meets and the Divisional Meet. Generally, the top 16 swimmers (and three alternates) in each event from each MCSL team are invited to swim. A swimmer may compete in a maximum of two events.

Dolphins Pre-Team Meet - July 2023

This special event is held for our pre-teamers to showcase all of their progress over the summer! Held at Bannockburn, swimmers will swim freestyle, backstroke and the kickboard race without being disqualified. Older swimmers are invited to volunteer and cheer on our youngest teammates! There is a potluck for all pre-teamers and an awards presentation following the dinner!
