Practice Policies

How often am I expected to go to practice?

Swim team members receive instruction from our professional coaching staff. Swimmers are expected to attend at least one practice a day. After the public school year ends, morning practice is also offered. Swimmers are welcome to attend morning and afternoon practice. Practices are opportunities to learn and improve your swimming and the more practices swimmers attend, the more they will improve and feel connected to the team.

What if it is raining or cold?

If the pool is open, there is practice – rain, shine, too hot or too cold! However, practice may be delayed or cancelled because of thunderstorms. Some children (especially young children) can be miserable on cold rainy days. It is ok to keep them home as we want all children to love swim team. Because attendance tends to be lighter on those days, the swimmers may receive more individual attention.

How will I know if the pool staff has closed the pool?

The pool staff closes the pool for 30 minutes at a time so check our Twitter account for updates: @BBurnSwimClub.

I swim with a year-round club whose practices conflict with Bannockburn practices, what should I do?

We are glad that you swim with a year-round club and appreciate it is important to you and your club coach that you attend those practices. You may count those practices to your daily practice requirement. HOWEVER, we expect you to attend a least one Bannockburn practice a week.

Does swim practice take the place of swim lessons?

It is difficult for the coaches to give daily individual attention to every swimmer due to the size of the team and the number of swimmers present at any one practice. Therefore, if swimmers would like to receive extra personalized work on a certain stroke, they are encouraged to arrange private lessons from the coaches. A list of instructors will be posted on our website and on the Swim Team bulletin board at the pool.

Does an adult need to be with the child at swim practice?

Adults are not required to be with swimmers during practice, but please be mindful of dropping off and picking up swimmers on time.

Can parents talk to the coaches during the practices?

It is critical for coaches to completely focus on swimmers during practice.  Please contact coaches outside of practice times.
