B Meet Volunteers (Needs and Descriptions!)

Dear Dolphin Team Parents,

We are in full-swing in our efforts to recruit parent volunteers for each “B” meet and, we’d love it if you could take a few minutes to look at your calendars with the meet schedule in hand – and we encourage you to sign up for volunteer shifts at swim meets.

If your child has been on the swim team in prior years, you are probably aware that it takes a lot of volunteers to ensure that each meet runs smoothly. If you have not been on the team in prior years, we encourage you to sign up for volunteer positions. It’s a great way to get to know other team parents AND have a front row to see your kid swim! And we promise we’ll have someone there to show you the ropes.

We want to ensure that all of the swimmers have the best possible experience as a Bannockburn Dolphin and we need YOUR help to do it.

So you have a sense of what you’re getting into, below are brief descriptions of roles that we need to fill!

10 & Under Helper – This job entails helping the younger kids get in order of their event, heat, and lane – and ensuring that they move up to their race in the right order. This job is fun because you get to know our youngest swimmers and some of our oldest ones as many will be there to assist!

Card Runner – This job entails collecting the cards and delivering them to the automation team. The automation team then inputs the swimmer’s name and time into the system – and results are printed. This job is great because you get a lot of exercise and you’re a central part of the meet!

Ribbon Writer – This job entails taking the results from the automation team and placing the sticker on the proper ribbon for each swimmer. The ribbon writer then files the ribbons in the ribbon bin for kids to be able to pick up on Thursday out of their own file. This job is fun because every kid loves getting a ribbon for their race and you get to facilitate it!

Timer – This job entails pressing the button on the timer when the starter gun goes off, and stopping the timer when the swimmer finishes the race ☺ The timers write down the times on the card and then hand their cards to the runner. This is a really fun job because you have a front-row seat to the awesome races – plus your kid thinks you’re pretty cool doing it! You also meet great people!

*** If you are unable to make it to a meet before 6:00 pm or need to leave before the end of the meet (you're not alone! we get it!), but could serve in a volunteer function for half of the meet, please send us an email: [email protected] or [email protected] and we will find someone to split a shift.
