Coach’s Check-In: Welcome to the 2021 season at Bannockburn!

Hello to all Bannockburn families, both old and new!

Welcome to the 2021 swim season! This is the first of your weekly emails that you will be receiving from me to stay up to date on swim team happenings. First, some coaches’ introductions:

I’m Lisa Long, and I’m thrilled to be Bannockburn’s new head coach. I will be assisted by returning associate coaches Gabriela (Gabby) Helf and Lucca Scott, as well as coaches-in-training (CITs) Gideon Helf, Valerie Mello, and René Gustafson. You can find some of our bios on the team website at: https://bannockburndolphins.swimtopia.com/coaches.

Secondly, we have a team motto for the season: “All things are possible.” We believe this applies athletically, academically, socially, and personally; and it is our hope that swimmers will remember it is true for them both in and out of the water. Don’t be surprised to hear us say it, and say it often!

Lastly, some things to mark on your calendar:

  • Pre-team begins this week, Monday the 7th. For the schedule, check: https://bannockburndolphins.swimtopia.com/practice-schedule. We realize this time may not work for everyone, so please attend when you can, no pressure!
  • Time Trials is on Saturday the 12th. Reps have sent out an email with signup instructions. Swimmers can NOW sign up for five events. Time trials is our first intrasquad meet, and is a perfect opportunity to meet other swimmers and see how races operate. It is important to attend time trials so that each swimmer has a baseline time for each event and so that coaches can determine who will swim A and B meets. A meets are for the top 3 swimmers in each event (or top 6 in freestyle) and are held on Saturday mornings; B meets are for everyone else and are held on Wednesday evenings.
  • Private lessons are available for those wanting some one-on-one instruction for their swimmers. More info and registration are at: https://bannockburnpool.com/activities.

A job well done to everyone on their first week of practice. I was so impressed by the ability of the swimmers to listen and take direction, and both athletes and parents alike made me feel very welcome. So thank you, and keep up the great work!

That’s all for now. Stay tuned for weekly updates in the future, and see you at the pool!

Cheers,

Coach Lisa
