**Deadline TONIGHT** Register for Blue-Out Meet + Time Trial Results + FAQs

Hi Bannockburn Dolphins,

The chilly, wet conditions Saturday morning didn’t stop our Dolphins from kicking off the season with lightening speed. Thanks for all your patience as we dusted off our watches and remembered all the things on our “to do list” to successfully operate a meet! From sharpening pencils, and setting up tents, to corralling swimmers to their events! Big shoutout to our social event coordinator, Renee Niebylski for welcoming everyone with beaded necklaces and Chris Rodgers who managed to arrange all the officials while in London! We’ve got a committed crew!

Congratulations to all the new swimmers for making it through their first time-trials! Huge shoutout to the following swimmers for making All-Star Qualifying times at our first meet:

  • Nathan Badmus (100IM, 50 Fly)
  • Bruce Bello (25 Backstroke, 25 Fly)
  • Olivier Bui (50 Breaststroke)
  • Caroline Conroy (50 Backstroke)
  • Eli Nigri (25 Backstroke, 25 Fly)
  • Saxon Randsmith (50 Breastroke)

Will you be available to attending future meets? Please DECLARE YOUR AVAILABILTY for A-Meets ASAP. Please do this even if you are unsure if your swimmer will qualify for A-Meets (this helps the coaches quickly fill the meet roster). Follow these Sign-Up Instructions.

We’ve received TONS of great questions from many parents, so we’ve put together a FAQ to share with everyone:

Bannockburn Swim Team Frequently Asked Questions:

1.When will I know if my swimmer has been selected for the A-Meet? A-Meet selections change every week. Typically, parents are notified if their swimmers have been selected for the next A-Meet on the Thursday or Friday after the Wednesday evening B-meet. Please indicate your availability for the A-Meet in Swimtopia.

  • Sign on to your account.
  • Select 2022 Schedule tab
  • Click Meet Entry for the meet you want to sign up for.
  • Click Edit.
  • For each of your swimmers, select an option from the drop-down menu. The menu reads:
    • Attending this meet
    • Not attending this meet

2. Why do I have to register for meets? Can’t I just show up. Registering for meets is critical because it helps us create and print Heat Sheets to organize heat/lanes for each swimmer prior to each meet. We pride ourselves on our communication efforts and promise to send several notifications to help you remember to register before the due date. As you might imagine, these communications are time consuming and last-minute entries are incredibly disruptive for our hardworking volunteers. Our automation crew has to update the database and re-print new heat sheets and timer sheets. While we were able to accept last-minute entries for Time Trials, we will be unable to accommodate swimmers that have not been pre-registered going forward. Thank you for your understanding.

3. Where can I find the meet results?  Meet results can be found in Swimtopia, under the 2022 Schedule Tab

4. Why did my swimmer DQ? In any Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) meet, any swimmer who performs an illegal stroke or turn will be disqualified from the event. The reason for the disqualification will be noted on the meet results. In addition, the coaches will inform the swimmer of the reason for the disqualification and work with the swimmer to correct the issue. DQs are a normal learning experience that help the swimmer improve.

5. How are the A-Meet Relays decided? Swimmers of all ages may be asked to participate in relays during A-Meets. Coaching staff will determine which swimmers will be selected each meet. Coaches will take into consideration: swimmer performance during the meet, the opponents performance and athlete’s sportsmanship.

6. What are the practice requirements? Bannockburn Swim Team is as flexible as you need! There is no minimum requirement for practice attendance, however, the more your swimmer attends, the more likely they are to see improvement! Swimmers may attend up to two practices per day (morning and afternoon).

7. Are morning practices for everyone? Yes! All ages are welcome at morning practice. Morning practices begin June 20th from 8:30-10:00am.

8. What swimsuit do I wear for practices and meets? Your swimmer will swim their best in a tight-fitting racing suit, it’s no myth that ill-fitting baggy suits create unwanted drag! Please visit Sport Fair in Arlington, VA to purchase the optional Bannockburn Team Suit.
