2023 Bannockburn Swim Team - All The Information You've Been Waiting For...

Hello Bannockburn Families –

Quiz: What happens on May 22nd? It’s the FIRST day of Bannockburn Swim Practice! Only 14-days away. Your volunteer swim team committee and coaching staff have been working hard to prepare an incredible summer.

Let’s start at the very beginning…a very good place to start…

May 18th @ 8:30pm – Ask Us Anything! Zoom Swim Team Kick-Off SessionWe know you’ve got lots of questions and we are here for you! Let’s kick off the season with a round of Ask us Anything. This is NOT just for new families; we hope to see everyone join the call. We will have our Swim Team Committee and Coaching staff on the call to walk you through the season.

May 21st @ 3:00-5:00pmBack to Pool Event – This is a meet and greet opportunity – chat with coaches, grab some pizza and meet other swimmers and families. Sport Fair will be onsite selling our 2023 team suit! This is a perfect time to have a Sport Fair professional suit fitter give their expert advice on the correct sizing for your swimmer. Trust me when I say, no swimmer wants an ill-fitting suit – correct sizing IS important. We will also be selling our super-hot new 2023 Bannockburn Team merchandise designed by our locally famous t-shirt designer Kevin Nigri. Don’t wait to purchase as inventory is limited and popular sizes will sell out quickly.

If your swimmer is new to the team, please sign-up for Bannockburn Swim Team Assessments. Assessments will be conducted during the Back to Pool event. Coaches will determine correct placements for swimmers – either the swim team or pre-team. Can’t make it on May 21st to the Back to Pool Event? No problem. You can visit Sport Fair in Arlington to purchase the optional team suit. Feel free to show up during the first week of scheduled practices and ask a coach to conduct an assessment. Can’t make the first week of practices either? No worries - just reach out to a coach and they’ll schedule a time. We get it – we know what busy is like.

May 22nd – First Day of Practice – Check the updated schedule HERE as practice times have slightly shifted.

Volunteer Expectations –It’s no secret that we are a small group of volunteer parents struggling to recruit enough help. Apart from the coaching staff, Bannockburn swim team operates entirely by parent volunteers. We simply cannot operate without your help. Each swim meet requires parent volunteers to operate the meet. You will be required to sign up for your volunteer job each week (don’t worry we will explain exactly what you need to do). There are endless opportunities to volunteer including, but not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Officials – Want to have a front-row seat to all events' action this summer? Look good in blue and white? We need YOU to get certified as an MCSL official to help our team have the best summer. It's required to make our meets run, is entirely volunteer supported, and best of all certification is EASY: training is offered remotely in a single quick session at various times in May and June. Please drop us a line after you sign up now at the link below, and we look forward to seeing you deck-side! http://www.mcsl.org/Officials.aspx
  • Automation – Are you good with numbers, quick and accurate at typing, or a superstar editor? Please join our automation team. Automation is the process of entering swimmer's times into the software database. Bonus - guaranteed the shadiest seat in the house.
  • Concessions – There is no greater honor than nourishing our hardworking athletes and waking up groggy parents with a shot of coffee during home meets. Tasks will involve menu planning, procurement of the goods, and food sales.
  • End of Year Banquet – “Yeah, party on, party people let me hear some noise DC’s in the house jump, jump rejoice. There’s a party over here, a party over there. Wave your hands in the air, shake your derriere – whomp there it is” – Calling all party planners to help plan an amazing end of season banquet honoring our swimmers.
  • Event Planning – Bring the fun. Help us organize and lead our social events from karaoke to bingo and movie night!

NEW THIS YEAR: All families must donate 1-large pack of bottled water. Bottles of water will be used to hydrate parent volunteers and officials during swim meets. We will provide further instruction when we figure out where we plan on storing all this water.

Master's Swimming: Forget the kids – it’s our turn. Calling all adult swimmers…all levels welcome! Sunday morning team practices @ 9:30-10:30am with Coach Lucca Scott. Cost $100 - Register HERE. Don’t delay as we only have spots for 25 adult swimmers.

Coming Soon - Private Lessons: We are already getting tons of inquiries regarding private lessons! The answer is YES! Cost $30-$40/30 minutes. Be on the lookout for signup opportunities for private lessons with your favorite coaches.

Let’s get ready Dolphins.
