THIS IS OUR YEAR! Every four years, swimming is the most popular sport in the world—if only briefly thanks to the summer Olympics. Regardless of what comedian Noah Trevor says...swimmers do it better!

There are only 6-weeks until we can polar plunge into Bannockburn pool - but today’s the day to secure your spot on the Bannockburn Swim Team! We pride ourselves on being a totally stress-free team…if your swimmer wants to participate, and you belong to Bannockburn Pool – we got you! There’s a spot available in either pre-team or on our competitive swim team.

May 19th @ 9:30-11:30 - Meet the coaches, purchase an optional team suit from Sport Fair, and check out our new merchandise! If you are new to the swim team, coaches will be on deck for in-water assessments to determine placement on the swim team or pre-team. Have lots of questions? Parents and coaches will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about the season. Can’t make it on May 19th? NO WORRIES - just complete the registration and select the in-water assessment option and swimmers can complete the in-water assessment during the first week of practice - come anytime! Are you only available for half the summer? No problem. Can’t make every practice? No worries. Looking for private lessons? The answer is YES! Do you have other questions? Let us know!

Coaches

We are thrilled that Head Coach Malena Lair Ferrari will be returning to Bannockburn this summer. Malena is an accomplished professional swim coach at Holton Arms. She also teaches at the German International School of Washington DC. Not only does Malena have 10+ years’ experience as the head coach at Bannockburn, she literally grew up on the Bannockburn swim team! We’ve got a dream team of additional coaches to provide skillful technique, encouragement and to bring the HYPE…Tess Buckley, Andrew O’Brien, Will Spooner, Shelby Carter, Charlie Conroy, Lily Rogers, and Zack Zand!

Practice Schedule

Must your swimmer attend all practices? NO! Is there a practice attendance requirement? NO! There’s something for everyone’s hectic schedule! Remember - we are stress free! Curious about the practice schedule? We offer morning practices and early evening practices! Attend when you can.

Wednesday Evening “B-Meets”: ALL SWIMMERS ARE INVITED! IMPORTANT - parents are required to sign up swimmers for B-Meets each week, but don’t worry - we will remind you!

Saturday Morning “A-Meets”: Qualified swimmers will be invited to Saturday morning “A-Meets”. Invites come directly from coaches every week and change from week to week, so it’s critical to let us know when your swimmer is not available.

Volunteering

What’s a Bannockburn Swim Team email without a plea for volunteers (yep…we are going there already). Parent volunteers are the heart of our swim team program and we simply can't operate without you. You guys are in serious luck this summer, as there are many volunteer openings! Dig deep and find your inner volunteer.

Are you type A? Great with computers/data entry? Do you love watching meets from the shade? Sounds like you’d be a great candidate for Automation! The Automation Team is responsible for entering data, i.e. swimmers times, into the database!

Do you love nourishing hungry swimmers? Do you believe food affects mood and performance? Then Hospitality is the opportunity for you! The Hospitality Team plans concessions for the @ Bannockburn Pool swim meets. The team also helps plan our famous Friday night team pasta dinners!

Are you good under pressure, can you easily recognize faces and names? Clerk of Course (officially voted the most bizarre name) - your role will be lining up swimmers based on their heat and lane assignments.

Plot twist…we know your kids aren’t expecting this one…do you want the most VIP seat (actually you’d be standing) in the house (with the coolest outfit?). Please consider supporting the team by becoming a Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) Stroke and Turn Judge, Starter, or even a Referee (experience required) by taking an online clinic (starting May 20th). It doesn’t take much time, and we really need you! Check out MCSL’s schedule to REGISTER for virtual training clinics starting May 20th.

Are there any party planners in the house? For those nostalgic for your old school party days we really need your help. Please consider joining our Banquet Committee to help the team plan and prepare for our Awards Banquet on Saturday, July 20th @ Bannockburn Pool.

Do you want to be the popsicles hero? We are looking for a Pre-Team Rep to give a little extra attention to our pre-teamers. Passing out popsicles is just the tip of the iceberg…ok enough puns - but we could use your help.

Last Call for Personalized Silicone Swim Caps:

Want your swimmers name on their swim cap? Orders must be placed by May 10th - link is in the swim team registration (cost: $35/two caps) - Please note that all swimmers will receive one latex cap included with registration.
